7. MARGARET6 PHIPPS, (JAMES5, WILLIAM4, ROBERT3) was born abt 1640 in Maine or England?, and died Aft. 1704 in Massachusetts?  She married (1) HALSEY.  What was his first name? He died Bef. 1696.  She married (2) JAMES ANDREWS August 06, 1696, son of SAMUEL ANDREWS and JANE.  He was born abt 1635, and died May 05, 1704 age 79, Boston, Suffolk Co., Massachusetts.  James married (1) SARAH MITTON Abt. 1655 in Saco, York Co., Maine?, daughter of MICHEAL MITTON and ELIZABETH CLEEVES.  She died abt 1696.  Did Margaret marry a third time to WHITE?

November 16, 1676; Daniel Turell, buys land of James Halsey. (SD 9:357). North St. between Clark and Salutation Sts. Daniel Turell later had many dealings with Sir William Phips and lived near to him. Could this be her husband?

1692, Boston; Deposition of John Halsey of the Sloop Adventure concerning David Thomas of His Maj. Ship Nonsuch. Sworn before William Phips. Is this her husband or maybe her son?

August 15, 1684 William Coleman (shopkeeper) with wife Elizabeth mortgages house shops, yard, etc., near Halsey's wharf, lately in possession of Mrs. Margaret Thatcher, and by her sold to sd Coleman, land late Capt. Samuel Scarlet N.E., St. to the seaward S.E., another St. leading to house of late John Freake S.W., Richard Barnard N.W. (SD 13:171) E. corner of North and Fleet Sts. This is all in area where property is owned by Phips family.  Who was the Halsey who had a wharf?

A deposition of James Ross, aged about seventy years, testified: "That he lived in Falmouth in Casco Bay the greater part of his time from his majority till he was taken by the indians in the fort with Cap Davis and he very well knew the island opposite Perpudock called Andross his island & he never heard that any person claimed it but Mr James Andross in that Day and Time. Mr Andross had a Garrison house on the island and he lived there as he was informed as his own proper estate & he Sd Ross lived there some times there in Sd Mr Andross's house or Garrison with his uncle Skillings."

During King Philips war, on August 9, 1676 the Indians attacked Falmouth, burning the houses and killing the inhabitants, including Nathaniel Mitton, the brother of Andrews' wife, Sarah. Some of the fugitives, with the assistance of James and the minister, George Burroughs, escaped to the garrison house on Andrews' island at the mouth of the harbor, and built a stone barricade over the cliff of "White Head," traces of which may still be seen. The fugitives lived several months there under great privations and dangers from the Indians. Andrews later abandoned Falmouth in 1689 and removed to Boston where he died in 1704.  (History of Portland)

Hannah Cloyes deposed she had lived 1 year with James Andrews before Philips War28,29,30. James and Sarah had Elisha, James, Joshua, Samuel, Rebecca, Dorcas b. about 1663, Jane, Thomas. Burial: Granary Burial Ground, Boston, Suffolk Co., Massachusetts.
