About Moriah Bland, {Fictional}

From http://reynoldspatova.org/getperson.php?personID=I1668&tree=reynolds1

”It is generally accepted that the consort of James Crews was an Indian Maiden. She has probably died when he was hanged as his Will (written 1676) did not include provision for her. It is reported that her name was Moriah Bland.”

However, “Margaret Bland” is not proven as partner of Capt. James Crewes who died a widower with no known wife or living children. Nor was she a wife of William Sewell or known mother of Hannah Carter

From Harbury, K. E., & the Dictionary of Virginia Biography. James Crewes (1622 or 1623–1677). (2013, September 23). In Encyclopedia Virginia. Retrieved from http://www.EncyclopediaVirginia.org/Crewes_James_1622_or_1623-1677.

“He probably married Margaret Llewellin, who witnessed a will as Margaret Crewes on May 1, 1662, but when Crewes wrote his own will in 1676, he had no living wife or children. He bequeathed property to relatives of Giles Carter, but whether he was related to Carter by marriage or otherwise is not certain.”

Comments

”To my knowledge there never was a Marguret Bland in any way connected to Giles Carter or James Crewes .....just his wife Marguret Llewellyn. Back in 2000 when Shawn Potter was speculating about Hannah Carter possibly being an Indian the names Moriah, Marguret, and Bland weren't in the postings these were added i think by Don Green in his book about 2008.
”William Sewell left his estate entirely to Giles Carter jr. b. 1686 his wife Elizabeth was dead by the time of the will 1725. Don't know her maiden name.”

Citation

  • From MyHeritage family tree: “Moriah Household Servant/Slave of James Crews, Arrohatok-Powhatan-Metis (born Bland) was born in 1624, at birth place, to John Bland (Toro Native American) and Louisa Native American Bland.“

Disconnected as wife of Capt. James Crewes

Mariah Bland was not a Cherokee they did not even live in tidewater Va at this time. She is a fictional character created by Dan Green in his book Shawnee heritage which has been labeled as a fraud by most serious Native American researchers.. There is no Mariah Bland in any historical source. Supposed by some to be an Indian slave of James Crewes when he in fact had no female Indian Slaves in any records only 2 male Indian Slaves
