About Robert Hamilton of Torrance
ROBERT HAMILTON OF TORRANCE (aka ROBERT DE HAMILTON DE TORRENS)
Robert Hamilton of Torrance (aka Robert de Hamiltoun de Torrens), here treated, is not mentioned in any of the published accounts of the Hamiltons of Torrance but he appears to have succeeded to certain property in Linlithgow which had previously been in the possession of Thomas Hamilton of Torrance. (aka Thomas de Hamilton, lord of Torrens). Robert may be Thomas's son but no evidence of relationship is presently available. Thomas Hamilton of Torrance is noticed from a charter which he issued on 6 February 1415-16 NRS: AD1/34 and Robert Hamilton of Torrance is noticed in a charter which he issued on 5 October 1454. Pious Gift for the Celebration of Mass
Robert Hamilton of Torrance issued a charter on 5 October 1454, a charter by which he confirmed that he had made a gift of certain annualrents which he received from his property (in Linlithgow) to tthe parish church of Linlithgow, for the maintenance of a chaplain to celebrate mass at the altar of St Katherine there. Death

6 February 1415/16: Charter of sale by Thomas Hamiltoun, lord of Torrens, to John Gynnis, burgess of Lynl[i]thcu, of annualrent of 16s. due to said Thomas from diverse built lands in said burgh, viz. 6s. from perch of land lying on east side of the market-place between tenement of John Leche, parson of Diserte on north and tenement of Robert Scot on south, and 10s. conjointly from two perches of land, one lying between tenement of deceased Robert Kyncawil on west and tenement of Patrick Ka on east, and the other lying near the church of said burgh between land of John Carnis and land of deceased Sir Robert Aldcathi, all which perches of land Alan Paisley, burgess of said burgh, holds in feu-ferm for said sum of 16s.
