Sheriff 1467-8. Mayor 1477-8. Auditor 1471-3; Prime Warden Goldsmiths 1462, 1467, 1475; Comptroller and Assay Master Mint 1451-9.

He was charged with treason and deprived of his Aldermanry of Langbourn in 1468 on account of his Lancastrian sympathies but afterwards returned to the Court of Aldermen, being elected for Cripplegate.

[a.d. 1477], -De mumfac'oe ordinance by Ralph Josselyn, Knt. and Mayor, Humphrey Starky the Recorder, William Edward, Robert Drope, Robert Basset, Humphrey Hayford, Richard Gardyner, Bartholomew James, Knt., William Heriot, William Stokker, Knt., John Broune, Robert Billesdone, Edmund Shaa, Thomas Hille, Robert Colwiche, Hugh Brice, and Henry Colet, Aldermen, that a sum of 5 pence should be levied on all householders in the City for payment of a man [in each Ward] to clean the City's ditches; and that two Commoners in each Ward should be elected to receive the money, and pay the labourers' wages by the week, special consideration being given to the poor.
