http://tngenweb.org/decaturtn/families/dennison.html provides a lineage of the descendants of Stephen Dennison.

Stephen[1] Dennison. Born, 1789, in Pittsylvania Co., VA. Died, 1866, in Henderson Co., TN. Burial in McCall Cem., Henderson Co., TN.

"Stephen Denison took an active part in many of the sieges and battles of the war of 1812. He was a life-long Whig and worthy citizen, leaving to his posterity an honored name." [Goodspeed's History of Tennessee]

The ancestry of Stephen Dennison is provided briefly in a sketch of the family compiled by Herbert Eugene Dennison in 1932, a copy of which is available in the public library in Lexington, Tennessee. "The earliest Dennisons of record living in America were three brothers who came to America from Scotland prior to the American Revolution. One of these settled in Massachusetts, one in New York, and one in Virginia....

"I am a descendant of the brother who settled in Virginia. The first known one was named David Dennison. The name DAVID has hung on to our family since that time. This David is known to have fought in the French and Indian War. His son, whose name was Robert, was a captain in Washington's army at Valley Forge. The name of his wife is unknown. He had two sons, Robert and Stephen, both of whom were soldiers and fought in the War of 1812.

"In 1812 Stephen married Elizabeth Ingram in at Chatham, Pittsylvania County, Virginia. (The towns of Chatham and Ingram are still on the map.) Stephen was in the battle of New Orleans under General (later President) Andrew Jackson. While away in the army a son was born. His name was Robert Robinson Dennison, whose grandson I became....

"After his discharge from the army after the War of 1812, Stephen and Elizabeth moved first into North Carolina and then into Tennessee, and settled on a farm near Chesterfield, Tennessee, about 10 miles southeast of Lexington, Tennessee...."
