Draper Senior had moved from the Cape Botanical Gardens to Graham’s Town and in 1854, sent his 5-year old son David to his halfbrother Thomas to be educated, possible at the new Government School that had been built but unsatisfactorily staffed. David did not like school and suffered it only shortly.
