Emigrated to Nelson, NZ, with his 2nd wife and their 3-year-old son Thomas on the "George Fyfe", arriving 12 Dec 1842.

His daughter Elizabeth by his first wife also came to New Zealand. She would have been 16 in 1842. Was she on the same ship? (Not in passenger list). Elizabeth married in Nelson in 1847.

Thomas Foy's second wife's grave is one of very few remaining graves in the Hallowell Cemetery (Shelbourne Street), Nelson. According to a sign at the cemetery entrance, Thomas Foy is said to be buried in Waverley.

Moved from Nelson to Taranaki (where his son was farming) about 1889.

Colonist, 23 October 1889, Auction Sale, City Property: Messrs BISLEY BROS. & CO. have received instructions from Mr THOMAS FOY (who is leaving Nelson) to Sell by Public Auction, at their rooms, Hardy St, The following Valuable City Properties-- First. - The LEASE of all that Piece of Land, containing ONE ACRE, more or less, situated at the Corner of Trafalgar and Halifax streets, being Section No. 233 on the Plan of the City of Nelson, together with the TWO DWELLING HOUSES thereon, each containing 6 and 8 rooms respectively, Water and Gas laid on, and every convenience. The lease is for 21 years, and dates from 1st October, 1881. Second:- All that Piece of FREEHOLD LAND, situated in Hardy street, 293 feet by 44 feet, with SHOP and DWELLING HOUSE, containing 10 room, and OUTBUILDINGS, including large Stable of 8 stalls, 2 Cart Sheds, and a large Hay Loft 66ft by 16ft thereon.

Colonist, 23 October 1889, BISLEY BROS. & CO. have been favored with instructions from Mr THOMAS FOY (who is leaving Nelson for the North Island) to Sell by Public Auction, At their Rooms, Hardy street, On SATURDAY, November 2 at Noon-- All that Valuable Block of FREEHOLD LAND, containing 11 ACRES (4.5 acres on Hops), situated in Toi Toi Valley, and about one mile from the General Post Office, fronting Vanguard, Totara, and St Vincent streets, suitable for dividing into Valuable Building Allotments as follows:- 6 Acres flat Land fronting Vanguard street, being Sections 845 to 850, 3 Acres flat Land fronting St Vincent street, being Sections 625 to 627, 2 Acres on the side of the Hill with long frontage to St Vincent street, all on the plan of the City of Nelson. Together with HOP KILN, 11,000 (more of less) HOP POLES, HAIR CLOTH, BINS, Patent HOP PRESS thereon, and all requisites for Hop cultivation. The Auctioneers call special attention to the above desirable property. The Hop Garden is now in good order, and looks promising for a large return this season. The Kiln is almost new and built of brick. In view of "Better times coming" this property should realise well. BISLEY BROS. & CO, Auctioneers.

Colonist, 14 May 1890: DEATHS. FOY.- May 12, at Waverley, Thomas Foy, aged 87.

Colonist, 14 May 1890: DEATH OF AN OLD SETTLER.- Mr Thomas Foy, senior, one of Nelson's earliest settlers, has passed away at the ripe old age of eighty-seven. Deceased came here in 1842, and by his uprightness in business, and Christian conduct he won the esteem of all brought into connect with him. He was one of a small band of earnest spirits who assisted in establishing Methodism in the Nelson district. Deceased has left a large circle of relatives embracing children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
