Worked as a gunsmith in London before sailing on the "The Chapman" on 3 December 1819 from London, with 271 passengers on board. The first landfall after departing was in Table Bay, Cape Town, South Africa on 17 March 1820. The final port of Call was Algoa Bay, Port Elizabeth, South Africa on 10 April 1820. He directed a divison of Bailie's Party after they reach the mouth of the Great Fish River, where 60 x one hectare plots where alloted to the members of the group. The area was known as Cuyler Town and later renamed Cuylerville, in the Bathurst area, His farm was known as St Anne's Vale, which was later renamed by his three surviving children who inherited it after the death of his wife Mary, who married a Mr John Fennin, but no children where born of Mary's second marriage.. He also extended his land to 208 morgen by purchasing allotments from other settlers in the area. He painted in oils and did a self portrait as well as oil paintings of his sons. Timothy's home went up in flames in 1846 during a frontier war. His son James's portion of the farm was later named Thorn Farm on which Timothy died sometime during 1826.
