Rear Admiral William Adger Jr., United States Navy (retired) died on July, 23, 2001, at Westminster-Canterbury in Virginia Beach, Virginia. His wife of 39 years, Marie Spence Moffett, died in 1996. The Moffetts had lived in the Tidewater area since 1960.
He was the son of Jeanette Whitton Moffett and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Rear Admiral William A. Moffett. The elder Moffett was a pioneer in Naval Aviation and was known as the Father of Naval Aviation.

Survivors include his son by Margaret McNeale Moncure, William A. Moffett III, Colonel, United States Marine Corps Reserve (Ret.) and his wife, Lynn Carli Moffett; four grandchildren, William A. IV, Hilary, Meredith and Alexander Moffett and one great-granddaughter, Zoe Moffett.
