About William McGillivray of Balnagiag
Known as William McGillivray of Balnagaig, the first cousin of Capt. William McGillivray of Dunmaglass.
The Inverness Courier in 19th century printed a rental roll of Dunmaglass and other properties relating to 1746. William appears on the roll as the principal tenant of Balnagaig, the largest farm of the Dunmaglass estate, paying the highest rent.
William had granted a bond in 1743 which was discharged in 1751, witnessed by Alexander of Knocknagael and Farquhar of Dalcrombie, giving his wife Mary McGillivray life rent over the town of Balnagaig. Given the two witnesses, Mary was clearly a member of the family in Lonnie or in Dalziel.
William in Balnagaig is also mentioned in the will of Alexander in Loonie in 1746.
