Nathanson family

I am curious about the changing of the family name fro Malovitsky (or other spelling) to Nathanson.
It would seem there might have been a NATHAN in the family...however I remember my Dad, Louis, telling me that Nathanson was a common Sydney name and so his father took it for his own...so perhaps there was no Nathan until Nate was born.
I do recall visiting Sydney.as a child, and driving on Charlotte Street ( the main street???) and seeing the name Nathanson on several store fronts.
Ken, Norris or Bernard...Can you confirm the name of the street? Also, where was Jack Leviten's original store and was that where Ruth and Al lived, upstairs??I visited when Miriam was a baby in 1955. Bobbie
