@-Bruno Budlevskis wrote on the Family "Budlevskis" in 1975 the follow lines:
The surname "Budlevskis" has been given to my ancestor by his employer, a nobleman, of Polish ancestry, who, as a gesture of gratitude for faithfull service, gave his coachman a noble surname. Apparently this nobleman knew of an extinct line of "Budlevskis" in Poland and did not see any harm in perpetuating the name this way.
(This information I got from my father when questioning him on the subject.)
As he explained, it was a very important to poses a surname of non Latvian origin at that time to command more attention and consideration from officialdom. The first "Budlevskis" appeared in the municipality Salonaja later renamed "Saliena" in early 1800, after the plague that followed the Napoleons War with Russia had subsided. This" Budlevskis" and his wife nee Lindeman bought the land known as Slapaku Krogs and part of a country estates land known as Gintowta and established a farm property under the name "Slapaki". The total land area was 222 ha. nearly all covered by scrub and forest.-@ -Ernest Budlevskis-
