Maude Gardner was the daughter of Alfred Smith Gardner and Martha Gardner, nee Ordish, Marthas mother was Mary Ordish nee Leckie and her mother was also Mary Leckie nee Crawford. Mary Leckie died two days after giving birth to her daughter Mary in 1842 at Petone.
Mary Leckie was married to William Leckie in Giffnock just outside Glasgow on the 6th September 1839 and they sailed to Port Nicholson on the Bengal Merchant ex Glasgow on the 30th of October 1839 arriving in port Nicholson in February 1840.
