Why aren't these profiles on Geni? Please enter them, along with whatever source data you have to support the line.

4/21/2018 at 3:45 AM

And their spouses, please.

I have added them Erica Howton. I've been nervous to add them for messing up the tree until I get more clarification. Thank you.

ReBecca Elizabeth Bennett Yay ! So far it looks good. So now what you want to do is go to town documenting your uncertain guy. Try and fill in everything you can find out about him. Add vital records & Census reports. Military service. Occupation, travel, cause of death, residences. All the kids, all the spouses family. By painting in the details it will pop out if something doesn’t make sense. Ask away if you’re not sure where to look for records.

4/22/2018 at 11:13 PM

I’d say Luman Jackson Howland & his father are the ones to focus on. Work backwards - most recent records.

And there's something not right about Benjamin Reed Howland.  I don't think he was the farmer in Lisle NY.  Electa Tracy's bio says they moved to Ohio.  So I think he didn't marry Mary Bowk either.  If he re married after Electa's death, it would have been in Ohio.

Also, Electa was educated.  This doesn't smell like a farm family.

Yeah, that's why I'm struggling with Benjamin Reed. I am slowly trudging. Fire on the farm last night so genealogy got pushed to back burner (ha!).

Let’s summon managers for the enigmatic Benjamin R. Howland and see what they think

Tanya Margriet Pandolfo How does he have two wives having children at the same time

Mary B. Howland & Electa Richardson

(As seen in an ancestry.com tree)

Noble Howland & Betsey Howland had a son Benjamin, was it this one?

A Reed middle name suggests a Reed ancestor and I do not see one so far.

ReBecca Elizabeth Bennett you had posted a death date / location of DEATH JAN 1884 • Dennis, Barnstable, Massachusetts, United States

But did not use that in the profile. Can you reference where that came from? It fits with a Freetown MA birth but not a NY, PA or Ohio person. Which doesn’t fit with Mary Rouk either - she looks like a NY person.

We are at a difficult place in history, when the Howlands exploded out of sedate Freetown & went pioneering.

4/23/2018 at 10:32 PM

Eugene Thomas can you add source data to Mary B. Howland and a separate Benjamin Howland husband? They are two different people in my opinion. I do not know which one belonged to Noble as father as yet. Also adding Mary Rouk’s Children will help, and Electra’s children.

Linda Sue Finger lf any comments you could add on this line is much appreciated

I’m pretty happy with the way this tree has shaped up.

If you look at the supporting evidence for Noble Howland

In the 1820 Census he’s heading a family of 10 in Lisle, Broome County, NY, and in 1830, his family is only a headcount of 5 in Coudersport, Potter County, PA.

So when he pioneered into Eulalia Township around 1826, he left his grown kids behind in Center Lisle - and the cemetery there is full of Howlands.

The mystery left is why is Electa Tracy’s death date given as 1862 when Benjamin Reed Howland is clearly on wife 2 by 1850? Divorce was very unusual, and he had son Luman living with him & Mary, Luman’s age 15. But where were Electa’s girls?

I had glanced at it before. I like it, locations and dates and "storyline" fit.

Can you add the notes to the profie & let's see if we can prove this out?

4/26/2018 at 6:44 PM

I've been looking to find newspapers or anything that would show divorce but no luck yet. I joined an Ohio Just Ask page and they haven't found anything either.

4/26/2018 at 7:10 PM

I think he might have married before and after

Ira Richardson

Newspapers are a good idea but was the divorce in Ohio or New York? I think we know the reason from the age of Benjamin’s 2nd wife. :). The Defiance, Ohio location is pretty compelling; it’s in the DAR record.

4/26/2018 at 8:58 PM

I'm looking in the "Reclaim the Records" pages to figure that one out, where the divorce might have taken place.

4/30/2018 at 8:02 PM

Brick wall....

4/30/2018 at 11:13 PM

I think you’re OK, we postulate that there must have been a divorce since we have both people remarrying, and reasonable identity evidence. A suggestion would be as always to keep building tree. I would not have jumped on your Electa Howland wedding record if the profile for her daughter living in Defiance Ohio hadn’t been made.

5/1/2018 at 11:46 AM

Well, don't stop jumping! I'm still overly excited, just also confused so any help is truly appreciated!

Does anyone have contact with Steve Riddle or Douglas Tracy?
