Sofie was born in the town of Scheles (now Zihle) as were all of her siblings. The family subsequently moved to Plzen. Her birth records are unavailable. The Plzen marriage register notes her date of birth as Mai 22, 1869, but the Terezin death notice places it as Mai 25.
