I would appreciate any help you could provide on my Great Grandparents, on my father's side.

George Bauer Circa 1871 and (Catherine) Katherine Steiner Bauer circa 1886. There is also a chance that Katherine remarried with the last name Spengler/Spangler... They both are thought to have been born in Russia.

Parents of 11 children:
Henry 1905-
Anna 1910-
Lydia 1914-
Adam Frederick 1915-2007
Edward 1917-1995
Mary 1919-
Bertha Fischer 1920-2009
Eleanore Charlotte Fillinger 1921-2005
Harold Henry 1923-1999
Leroy John 1925-
Norman James 1928-1993 My Grandfather married to Jean Perkins and then later divorced...

I originally thought that the census taker meant to write Prussia as the origination country but after some extensive research, I've come to believe that they were part of the families of Germans invited by Czarina Catherine to immigrate to Russia in the late 1700's.

It appears that they immigrated first to Kansas where they had one child and then settled in Milwaukee where the rest of the family was born.

I have not been able to find any information beyond my great grandparents. Any help you can provide would be absolutely appreciated. I am literally stuck on that arm of the family tree!

I've just begun doing some digging through the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia...but without a starting point its proven to be futile.

Thank you for any help you can provide!
