Does a source exist for the picture used in this profile and now elsewhere as well? Who uploaded it and from where?

Indeed Franco this photo for some other peson when searched on Internet that was then used by everyone everywhere for him .

Yes this cannot be him.
Oldest photograph was taken somewhere in between 1826 and 1827.
Some people don't realize this?

I do believe the picture is a sketch, and so could very well have been made during Jacob's lifetime (1690-1749), but the drawing has never been unearthed by the many, thorough, previous researchers. It's integrity is just questionable, especially seeing that no source was provided for it.

In those days, people had life-like portraits painted of themselves. Just out of interest though, my brother-in-law, who is a Kruger, has a very strong resemblance to the picture used for Jacob Kruger so there is a possibility that it could very well be a picture of an original painting.

I do like it. I am sure as Sharleen is saying they had portraits made. Ek hou van die oumie.

It is still better than just a grey block with nothing in it.
Maybe the picture came with the family from Germany.
See discussion on photo by the Kruger descendant that added it.

Is this an actual portrait of him?

As far as it could be verified, yes.
The clothes look in style for that time.

I sometimes wonder what the artists painted .
I have portraits from 1600's different family members yet they al look exactly like Jan van Riebeeck.
Was that perhaps how everyone at the time wanted to look like.
See Statue of Jakub Weiher in Poland compared to Jan van Riebeeck in Cape Town
