My name is Arthur Mark Mackie.
I understand that Mrs Amy Pawsey sent a cable (or other type of message?) to my Grandmother, Doris Mackie, in Barbados in late November 1939 informing her that her husband, Arthur Edward Mackie, who was an Engineer on Bogg Estate in Clarendon, Jamaica at the time, had died on 18th November, 1939.
In the message it was mentioned that he had "fought valiantly to the end". I and my family have never been able to figure out whether he was fighting with other people, in a riot perhaps, or whether he was fighting a disease or other physical ailment, which is more likely.
I anyone reading this message can shed some light on this, I would be most grateful.
I can be contacted at my email address mmackie65@hotmail.com
Thank you.
