EVIDENCE OF RELATIONSHIP WANTED

It is claimed, in a pedigree published by Wikipedia, that Jonet Hamilton is the daughter of James Hamilton of Evandale and Libbertoun and his wife Christian Boyd, although evidence of relationship is not offered. Jonet Hamilton is also said to have been born in about 1577 and to have died in about 1616 but no source references are given for this information and it does not seem possible to verify it using authentic record evidence.

Significantly, it might be thought, the person who created this pedigree identified Jonet Hamilton as follows: “Daughter of James Hamilton [uncertain] and Christian (Boyd) Hamilton [uncertain]”. They also added the following comment to Jonet's biography: “Jonet was born about 1577, the daughter of james Hamilton of Evandale and Libbertoun and Christian Boyd, according to FamilySearch Shared Tree, but not otherwise verified. She married William Reid.”

Any help or advice would be welcomed.

Jonet Hamilton has been misidentified as the wife of William Reid, but it seems that the marriage proposed for her is nothing more than pure invention. The likelihood, not to say the probability of this being the case is suggested by the fact that the child attributed to this marriage, a son named Alexander who is said to have been born on or about 18 December 1600, is actually the son of Niniane Reid and Jonet Hammiltoun.

In what appears to be a blatant attempt to bend the facts to suit a preferred outcome, Stevenson Browne, the author of this bogus genealogy, has identified Jonet Hamilton's husband as William "Ninian" Reid, but no such person exists!
