I have in error created William Robert Michael McEwen as a husband of Patricia Theresa Milne. I am wary of using delete as I do not fully understand what splitting the tree will do and I don't want to inconvenience other users, Can a curator please assist,

Can I suggest that you drops these kind of requests in https://www.geni.com/discussions/216411. It is more likely that a curator will see it an take action.
It also helps if you could copy the website address of the profiles (at the top of your browser, like "https://www.geni.com/people/..../6000000....") instead of just giving the names. It makes it a lot easier for people to find the profiles.
I hope you get the assistance you need.
