Can you merge this

I have sent the merge request in to the managers just now so I figured I might as well see if your knowledge on the Vikings are up, Dietrich the I Merger

https://www.geni.com/merge/compare/6000000047766418840

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theodoric_I_of_Wettin Theodoric I (c. 916 – c. 976), German Dietrich I, also known as Thierry I of Liesgau, is considered the oldest traceable member of the House of Wettin.

these are Swabian nobles I mean

Bruce, I have not actioned your merge request because while the two profiles do look like duplicates (i think they are) neither tree actually aligns with Cawley's Medlands (aka FMG) which is the guide that most curators go to for medieval european genealogy.

So while I think the two profiles should be merged I think the parents should be disconnected and some of the children. This wikipedia article actually highlights the problem by describing the conflicting theories about who Theodric's father was https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theodoric_I_of_Wettin

Over time the Geni tree has become aligned to one of these theories (which isn't uncommon) but in this case there doesn't seem to be a real justification for selecting one theory over any others so as well as merging there should be a lot of cutting and clean up.

Part of the problem is that while all these feuding nobles were related it is very difficult for anyone to say exactly how in many cases, and genealogists (especially amateurs) hate to have dead ends so connections get made where really they shouldn't be. When even the folks over a Wikipedia acknowledge that none of the theories stand out as most likely then I think that's a pretty strong sign.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theodoric_I_of_Wettin

Theodoric I (c. 916 – c. 976), German Dietrich I, also known as Thierry I of Liesgau,

is considered the oldest traceable member of the House of Wettin. In genealogy this makes him the progenitor of the dukes, electors and kings of Saxony, the grand dukes of Saxony-Weimar and Eisenach and the dukes of the various Saxon duchies of Thuringia, and of various present-day monarchs, including Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, King Philippe of Belgium, the last king Simeon II of Bulgaria, as well as the last king of Portugal, Manuel II.

How is that, can we add the father, Dietrich the I his father, Burkhard III, Dietrich is his son also Theodoric I of Wettin, his first wife, hello

https://www.geni.com/people/Burkhard-III-count-of-Wettin/6000000000...

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Lord Bruce Ross Myers

Dietrich I, count in the Hassegau

Lord Bruce Ross Myers did you even read the article that you linked???

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theodoric_I_of_Wettin

It specifically states that no one knows who was the father of Theodoric / Dietrich / Thierry:

"Several possible fathers have been identified for him, but there is no conclusive evidence for any of them"

8/27/2021 at 1:53 PM

It says on Theodoric yes I have read but he has more than one name, on Wiki it states that he is Dietrich, need to solidify it Alex, but I am who I am, lol

Love this stuff, just want to get it right, and things are hiding from this, it will go together, least it is getting looked at cause this is Burchard III, son of Dietrich you can't go wrong with that, thanks for looking into it, can be on going, lol The situations are dealing with, lol

8/27/2021 at 5:29 PM

He doesn't have more than one name they are all just variants of the same name.
It is like a American might be James or Jim, they are the same name just spelled and pronounced differently.
Guillaume/William/Willem/Wilhelm/Vilhelm is perhaps a better example

Theodoric's life. He is mentioned as Dedo's father by bishop Thietmar of Merseburg. Dedo is the first known count of Wettin, and Dedo's son, Theodoric II, Margrave of Lower Lusatia, is the first member of the Wettin dynasty, taken as established by his father. Why would this not be right, everything why not to but the right first Wettin, documents here, well documented, Burkhardt III, married Wettin, is Count of Wettin, how documented can this be>

8/29/2021 at 1:46 PM

Yes, I am well aware of this, lol Thank you, everything in there is why not to!

Theodoric I (10th century;
German: Dietrich,

also known as Thierry) was a nobleman in the Duchy of Saxony.

He is mentioned as Dedo's father by bishop Thietmar of Merseburg. Dedo is the first known count of Wettin, and Dedo's son,

Theodoric II, Margrave of Lower Lusatia, is the first member of the Wettin dynasty, taken as established by his father. Wettin Castle itself had probably been in existence since the 9th century, but it is unknown whether Theodoric had already held the castle. From the rank of count held by Dedo, a rank of count is often assumed for Theodoric in German historiography,

Authors vary in naming Theodoric a count of Wettin, or of Hassegau, or of Liesgau.

Theodoric's wife is named as one Jutta or Judith of Merseburg in early modern historiography.

Dedo I, Count of Wettin (c. 950 – 1009)

Fabpedigree use the words alternative, possible and probable so often it's like they are stuttering or lyrics for a bad rap song.

You're not going to find evidence for this relationship without learning to read Latin and getting access to unpublished manuscripts. It isn't waiting on the internet for you to Google.

8/29/2021 at 6:54 PM

Sorry, that looks a bit harsh.
There are places online that you can hunt, but you need a critical eye everything you've quoted is basically saying the same thing "uncertain".

New evidence might be online, maybe as a Masters or PhD dissertation or published in scientific media. But they aren't easy to find or read, even when they're in English

8/29/2021 at 6:55 PM

Plus some of them are literally hundred page documents that could be summarized as "still uncertain".

I am talkin with a person that is going to give noble titles, she friended me, go figure, sounds like my status is going to change, they said soon, they will be doing that, they know me like a hole in the head, did I ever open the biggest can of worms, Alex I like you most of all of all curators, I would like to see you at my get together for the issuing of my noble title, if you like, thank you for looking into it, you honor for this is the highest regard, much respect for you and the research. The answers to this and a whole lot more will be added to the tree, all the noble titles last names no more hiding people's lineages everything will be out, cause we will have nothing to hide from the people anymore, so many kids in europe where the parents gave there kids away to go to America later to be enslaved in the work force and or sold, sad, it will be hard to follow that breed
