These children, I think, are resonably presumed to be from the same family, despite the variation of Katen.

George Judkins and Ellen between 1871 and 1887 in Victoria, Australia.

Hi Toby and other readers
Do you have any information on the ancestors of Ellen Judkins (my great great maternal grandmother)?
As best I can make out her parents were William "John" Katen (1833-1853) and Jane Katen (1825-1870) nee Barnes. Jane Barnes' parents were Charles Barnes (1807-1882) and Nelly Barnes (1810 - ?). I have no information beyond that except that my mitochondrial dna suggests that Nelly Barnes parents may have come from Ireland.

Hi Peter,

I really wouldn't be surprised if Nelly Miller originated from Ireland.
Tasmania had some pretty good records around that time, some can be found here:
https://libraries.tas.gov.au/family-history/Pages/default.aspx

I personally use the Tasmanian Names Index for this sort of thing.
