Do you have any information on the ancestors of Ellen Judkins (my great great maternal grandmother)?
As best I can make out her parents were William "John" Katen (1833-1853) and Jane Katen (1825-1870) nee Barnes. Jane Barnes' parents were Charles Barnes (1807-1882) and Nelly Barnes (1810 - ?). I have no information beyond that except that my mitochondrial dna suggests that Nelly Barnes parents may have come from Ireland.

Hi Peter,
I really wouldn't be surprised if Nelly Miller originated from Ireland.
Tasmania had some pretty good records around that time, some can be found here:
https://libraries.tas.gov.au/family-history/Pages/default.aspx
I personally use the Tasmanian Names Index for this sort of thing.
