Anna Nancy Bland (Wormley) - Incorrect Info

I'm trying to get them sorted. There are multiple Bland men with wives named Ann(e) / Anna. So I'm putting notes and links into the profiles.

This Anna has been confused with this Anne / Anna:

Anne (Wormley) Bland

I can't find the parents of Anne / Anna Wormley but I put links into her profile for what is known about her. She was definitely born a Wormely and even named a son Wormley Bland. She was not a Bland by birth, from anything I've seen.

If Richard Bland II and his wife Anne Poythress had this daughter named Anna who is being associated with the Wormley family, I have no idea what that connection is. I don't know who she married. I think the children attributed to her belong to Robert Bland and Anne / Anna Wormley, since I know that couple had the son Wormley Bland. It's going to take me a while to sort the children.

That doesn't necessarily mean they weren't children of this couple. It could be they just didn't get added to that particular genealogy list. That sometimes happens. But if they aren't children of this couple, I don't know who they belong to. They have no notes in their profiles and were added in by Gedcom uploads, which often have errors.

This book references some of these children but I'm having difficulty identify the parents for sure since I'm having with the dates listed and how the list is shown. It shows that a Robert who died abt. 1795 had a son named Robert who married Anna and they had a son named Robert born in 1784 and died 1857. That would be the Robert Bland III. Then it has Esther, James, and Joshua. And that's it. None of the other known children of Anne Wormley and her husband are listed.

Furthermore, this Anne's husband Robert's father died in 1760, not 1795. So the dates don't fit for the book link to be talking about the same Bland family, relatives most likely who just happen to have a Robert and Anna also. But it 'seems' that the children left off the list of children for Anne Wormley don't belong to this particular family.

That leave the question of which 'other' Robert and Anna do Robert Bland III;
Jesse Bland;
Esther E. McKinney (Bland);
Joshua Bland
need to be connected to in order for them to show correct connections here on Geni.

Robert and Ann are such common names. These lines are on my son's paternal side, so I'm not as familiar with them as my own lines. All I can tell is that the children listed in the book reference seem to be from a smaller Bland family than this Anne Wormley and her husband Robert had and the fact that the list of their children omits these children referenced in the book, and the book omits all of the known children for Anne Wormley and her husband. So that seems convincing enough that it's two famliies.

I'm not going to disconnect the children listed in the book reference who aren't among the children listed for Anne Wormley, simply because I don't know where to put them. Hopefully their profile managers can figure that out and get them correctly connected to their rightful parents.

I've Googled and Googled and finally found some expanded info on these children whose parents I can't determine.

Jesse Blan of Greenbrier County

Ruby Blann of Lawrence, Kansas favored me with pension papers and the last will of Jesse Blan, who states he was born in 1756 in Prince William County, Virginia. He died April 16, 1835, making his will in Monroe County, Virginia. Thus Jesse's dates are (1756-1835). Jesse stated in his pension claim that he settled after the revolution in the area that was and became Greenbrier, Monroe and Kanawha counties. He served, he was pretty sure, with Captain Arbuckle, Major Woods, Colonel Neville and General Hand, enlisting in the Virginia Continental Line in 1776-1779.

There is little doubt but that this man was Jesse Blan (see information about his apprenticeship in VU, p. 419), son of John Bland (C1688-1762) and his wife Patience. His story causes a wrench of sadness for those of us who have been so interested in unraveling the family's early Virginia history. He makes no mention of his parents, and states "that he was born . . . in the year 1756-that his age is recorded in the bible of his family which was in possession of his brother when he left Prince William." This brother would presumably be John Bland (Jesse spelled his name Blan) (C1742-1807) who migrated to the Washington County, Kentucky area in the early 1780s with his wife Rachel and their children. Jesse also mentions that he suffered sickness and danger by participating in scouting parties while serving in the revolution and that "frequently after this discharge, together with his neighbors joined in scouting parties . . . being impelled to it from motives of safety to himself and his family." Yet when Jesse died, he left all his worldly goods to an associate Henry Hake and there is no mention of a family member.

Yet there certainly was a rather large and as yet not well explored family of Blands in Monroe County by the late 1780's. Perhaps Jesse was the founder or a co-founder of this group, (VU p. 399; AC 2-2, p. 15 and 3-1, p. 10). Morton's History of Monroe County Virginia included the following pregnant quote:

Bland, Robert (died C.1795) seems to have been the father of Robert (Anna) of Peters Mountain Valley, whose son Robert was born here in 1784. Children: Robert (1784-1857); Esther E. (M. James McKinney 1813); James (M. Idia Dawson 1813); Joshua (M. Polly Shires, 1807) probably a brother of Robert, had Robert (M. Elizabeth Hand 1808)."

All of which certainly indicates that 'how' these James River Blands connect to the others seems to be unknown.

The last paragraph from the James River Blands info repeats the exact info from the Google book link regarding the children: Robert, Esther, James, and Joshua. So, they clearly don't belong with the family they're connect to, but then...where? Maybe no one has that answer.

My recommendation would be to leave those siblings connected to each other under a father named Robert and mother named Anna, with Robert's father being listed as Robert died abt. 1795 and hope that by working with that info eventually more info will come to light. So since I started this process of sorting the family of Robert and Anne Wormley, I guess I'll go ahead and make that change so the siblings can stay in the same family cluster but not the wrong one.
