I was all set to merge the conflicting parents in https://www.geni.com/family-tree/index/6000000001319625302?resolve=... (in fact I did until I noticed the anomalies with Margaret below and then asked for my merge to be reversed).

It's not clear to me if:
Martha Shorey and Margaret Shore are the same person with one born in the UK and one in the US.

They are both seemingly married to a Samuel Shore/Shorey and again it is unclear to me if they are the same person:
Samuel Shore, the elder, of “Meersbrook”
Samuel Shorey, Jr.

although they do share the same lifespan of 1707-1785

Obviously if they are the same then they should be merged but if they are different then both Samuels cant be William's parents!

It looks as if someone has tried to sort this out and created more confusion. American Shorey's need to be separated from English Shore, The English tree starts with Samuel Shore 1 (unknown date). His son Samuel Shore II (1707-1785) m. Margaret Diggles (1714-?). His son William Shore (1752-1822) m, Mary Evans (1737-1853). His son William Edward (Shore) Nightingale (1794-1874) m. Francis Smith (1789-1880). They had 2 daughters: Frances Parthenope (Nightingale) Verney (1818-1890) and Florence Nightingale (1820-1910). I hope this helps!

Thanks Private User for providing the additional info. Unfortunately I think you previously added a set of duplicates in the Nightingale part of the tree that I started to try to sort out.

I think that I came unstuck when I hit a pre-existing anomaly that then got highlighted when the merge was propagated up the tree.

Anyway we now have:
1) Martha Shorey (US)
2) Margaret Shore (UK)
who both appear to be the same although the former is listed as being born in the US and the latter in the UK.

The US one is listed as the mother of Sarah Shorey who has US based half siblings.

I suspect that these 2 should not be merged and the US based one is in fact someone else.

Then we have the 2 Samuels:
1) Samuel Shore, the elder, of “Meersbrook”
2) Samuel Shorey, Jr.

#1 has the parentage of a UK based Samuel (son of Samuel Shore as suggested)
#2 has the family line of a US based person (managed by Erica Howton) but seems to have assumed the personal history of Samuel #1

I would suggest that these 2 are also not merged as they appear to be different Samuels form their places in the trr but the personal details and family relationships all need to be fixed and William obviously needs to end up with a single set of parents.

I am hesitant to do anything just yet for fear of making things worse!

Let’s see what I can do with curator undo merges & master profiles.

This man who had gotten tangled up in the Maine Shorey family is a hero!

Samuel Shore, of Norton Hall & Mearsbrook

See https://sheffieldtimewalk.wordpress.com/tag/samuel-shore/

Sadly Samuel never saw the Great Reform Act which gave 2 MPs to Sheffield in 1832 or the abolition of the Slave Trade in 1833 as he died in 1828 at the age of 90 at Meersbrook Hall.

(Repost to correct typo.)

Here’s the Burke’s reference to the Shore (not Shorey) line:

Burke, Bernard, Sir.A genealogical and heraldic history of the landed gentry of Great Britain & Ireland 6th ed. London : Harrison 1879. Vol. II. page 1453
I think I’ve got it sorted, doing another check.

The Samuel Shore b. 1738 and died in 1828 at Meersbrooke Hall is a 3rd Samuel Shore. Brother of William Shore.

I think https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/208071531/samuel-shore must be a typo in the given name. Death date, wife & son match Burke’s.
