The tombstone IS FOR REAL - Grace McLean Moses *did not invent it*.

Sorley was going on the only information available at the time. He made a guess, and guessed wrong.

Further research on my part indicates that Sorley first published in 1937 (the book has een reissued periodically ever since).

The tombstone was found in 1948. Sorley cannot have known about it.

Colonel John 'Councillor' Lewis is my 7th great grandfather.

Couple years ago we spent some time sorting out Lewises and Warners and whatnot. Anne Brannen was particularly helpful with the deep ancestry on several Lewis families (contrary to popular belief, not all families with the same surname belong to the same family - this is especially true in places like Wales that were latecomers to the whole surname thing).

Some people get so desperate for "illustrious ancestors" that they will believe anything. But the majority of immigrants to America were nobodies who made Somebodies of themselves by their own hard work.
