According to Missing Air Crew Report 11626, the B-24 was last seen breaking away from formation to land on Leyte for refueling. Presumably, the four motored bomber crashed into a jungle mountain, as remains of all aboard were later recovered.

LT. CHARLES GOLDBLUM Lt. Charles Goldblum, one of three fliers who were stranded for ten days last June on Tonto Plateau in the Grand Canyon after they parachuted from a disabled B-24 bomber, has been reported missing in action in the Philippines, according to his parents.

Lt. Goldblum, a bombardier, has been missing since Jan. 10th, the War Department notified his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Goldblum of Pittsburgh.

Forest rangers finally reached Lt. Goldblum and his companions, Flight Officer Maurice J. Cruickshank of Lawrence, Mass., and Corp. Roy Embanks, of Kalispell, Mont. Supplies were transported to them by parachute while they were marooned on the mile-square plateau.
