About Lord Granville James Leveson-Gower, 5th Earl Granville
Granville James Leveson-Gower, 5th Earl Granville was born on 6 December 1918. He was the son of Vice-Admiral William Spencer Leveson-Gower, 4th Earl Granville and Lady Rose Constance Bowes-Lyon. He married Doon Aileen Plunket, daughter of F/Lt. Hon. Brindsley Sheridan Bushe Plunket and Aileen Sibell Mary Guinness, on 9 October 1958. He died on 31 October 1996 at age 77.
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England. He fought in the Second World War, where he was wounded twice and was mentioned in despatches. He gained the rank of Major in the Coldstream Guards. He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1945. He was with Coutts. He succeeded as the 5th Viscount Granville of Stone Park, co. Stafford on 25 June 1953. He succeeded as the 5th Baron Leveson of Stone, co. Stafford on 25 June 1953. He succeeded as the 5th Earl Granville on 25 June 1953. He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) for Inverness-shire in 1974. He held the office of Vice-Lieutenant of the Western Isles between 1976 and 1983. He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of the Western Isles between 1983 and 1993.
