  • 'He was the son of John Holles, 2nd Earl of Clare.
  • 'He married Grace Pierrepont, daughter of Hon. William Pierrepont and Elizabeth Harris, on 9 July 1655 in St Giles in the Fields Church, London, England. They had seven children:
    • John Holles, 1st Duke of Newcastle-upon-Tyne (1662–1711)
    • Lady Elizabeth Holles (c.1657 – 9 November 1725), married in 1676 Christopher Vane, 1st Baron Barnard

  • 'Gilbert Holles, 3rd Earl of Clare was born on 24 April 1633.2 He was the son of John Holles, 2nd Earl of Clare and Hon. Elizabeth de Vere.2,3 He was baptised on 18 May 1633 at Hackney, London, England.2 He married Grace Pierrepont, daughter of Hon. William Pierrepont and Elizabeth Harris, on 9 July 1655 at St. Gile's-in-the-Fields Church, London, England.2 He died on 16 January 1688/89 at age 55 at Warwick House, Holborn, Middlesex, England.2 He was buried at St. James's Chapel, Haughton, Nottinghamshire, England.2 His will (dated June 1686 to 28 May 1687) was probated on 1 August 1691.2
  • ' Gilbert Holles, 3rd Earl of Clare was styled as Lord Houghton between 1637 and 1666.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Nottinghamshire in 1660.2 He succeeded to the title of 3rd Earl of Clare, co. Suffolk [E., 1624] on 2 January 1665/66.3 He succeeded to the title of 3rd Baron Houghton of Houghton, co. Nottingham [E., 1616] on 2 January 1665/66.3
