James Tuchet, 3rd Earl of Castlehaven was born circa 1617.[1] He was the son of Mervyn Tuchet, 2nd Earl of Castlehaven and Elizabeth Barnham.[1]

He married, firstly, Elizabeth Brydges, daughter of Grey Brydges, 5th Baron Chandos of Sudeley and Lady Anne Stanley, before 1631.[1] He and Elizabeth Graves obtained a marriage license on 19 June 1679.[2]

He died on 11 October 1684 at Kilcash, County Tipperary, Ireland, suddenly, without issue.1

• He succeeded to the title of 3rd Earl of Castlehaven, co. Cork [I., 1616] on 14 May 1631.[1] He succeeded to the title of 3rd Baron Audley of Orier, co. Armagh [I., 1616] on 14 May 1631.[1]
• He was created 1st Baron Audley of Hely [England] on 3 June 1633.[1]
• Between 1641 and 1643 he fought for the Rebellion of the Confederate Roman Catholic Irish.[1]
• In September 1642 he was indicted for high treason, and imprisoned in Leinster, but managed to escape.[1] Before July 1646 he continued to fight under Preston against the Marquess of Ormond.[1]
• Before September 1648 he fought in France under Prince Rupert.[1] Between September 1648 and April 1652 he fought against Cromwell's troops.[1]
• He gained the rank of Major-General in 1653 in the service of the Spanish Army.[1] He fought in the Battle of Rocroy.[1] He fought in the Battle of Cambrai.[1]
• He fought in the Dutch War between 1665 and May 1668, as a volunteer on land and sea, against the Dutch.[1] He fought in the Battle of Senef on 11 August 1674.[1] He was commander of the Spanish foot in 1676.[1]
• He succeeded to the title of 13th Lord Audley, of Heleigh [E., 1313] in 1678, by writ.[1]
• He fought in the Battle of Mons on 14 August 1678.[1]
• He wrote the book Memoirs from the year 1642 to the year 1651, published 1680.[1]
