"Sir Alexander Cray Grant, Baronet [S. 1688], 1st s. and h., b. 30 Nov. 1782, at Bowrings Leigh, Devon ; ed. at St. John's Coll., Cambridge ; B.A., 1803 ; M.A., 1806 ; was M.P. for Tregony, 1812-18; for Lostwithiel (two Paris.), 1818-26; for Aldborough, co. York, 1826-30 ; for Westbnry, 1830-31 ; for Cambridge town, 1840 and 1841-43, having suc. to the Baronetcy, 26 July 1825 ; was Chairman of Committees of the House of Commons, 1826-32; Member of the Board of Control for India, 1834-35, and a Commissioner for auditing the public accounts (salary £1,200 a year), 1843 till death. He d. num. 29 Nov. 1854, on the eve of his 72d birthday. Will pr. Jan. 1855."
