About Michael Sarrazin

Actor. Born Jacques Michel Andre Sarrazin, he moved with his family to Montreal while a child and began acting in high school productions. He studied at New York's Actors Studio and began his career in the film industry, initially in a series of history-based documentaries with the National Film Board of Canada. Sarrazin was introduced to American audiences with a guest role in the TV series "The Virginian" in 1965 and rapidly advanced to high-profile Hollywood pictures, as his boyish looks became a familiar presence. He was cast in supporting and lead parts in the features "The Flim-Flam Man" (1967), "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" (1969), "Sometime a Great Notion" (1970), "The Pursuit of Happiness" (1970), "The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean" (1972), "For Pete's Sake" (1974) and "The Reincarnation of Peter Proud" (1975). Less substantial films followed as well as roles in international pictures. Sarrazin also remained active in television, as he appeared in both Canadian and American programs including the series "Deep in the City" and "Murder, She Wrote". He died from cancer.
