(Ill) Aaron Hackney, son of Joseph, came to what is now Luzerne township, Fayette county, Pennsylvania, just after the French and Indian war, took up his land claim, and built his log cabin. He then returned to Virginia for his family, and returned with them to his home in the wilderness about 1758, and thereafter lived on his Fayette county farm, containing three hundred twenty-one acres. He was a member of the Society of Friends, or Quakers, and an industrious and prosperous farmer. He was married to Hannah Gregg (second wife; no children by first wife), a daughter of George and Elizabeth Gregg, who was born April 20, 1744. Aaron and Hannah (Gregg) Hackney had eight children, of whom John was the seventh.
