Aaron Raphael de Cordova

From the Gleaner and DeCordova's Advertising Sheet, July 9, 1866:

"It is our very sad and painful duty to announce the death of our beloved and respected relative, Aaron DeCordova, Esq. He expired yesterday evening at ten minutes past six. The funeral will leave his late residence in Duke Street this afternoon at 4:30 precisely and reach the Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue at 4:45 p.m. It is not for us to sound the praise of him who, universally respected and esteemed, was endeared to us by ties of relationship and bound us to him by exercising towards us all a father's care and love. We have sustained a heavy loss. God's will be done."

Obituary from the Colonial Standard:

“...he was on Saturday last attacked with a return of the alarming malady under which he has of late years suffered, and expired late yesteday evening. Mr. DeCordova is so well known and highly esteemed in the community that it were superfluous for us to offer any remarks commendatory of him.”

The Falmouth Post (on the north coast) also stated that he was “a gentleman who was deservedly respected and esteemed, not only in the City [of Kingston] but in every part of the island. Mr. DeCordova was, for many years, the principal of a large commercial establishment from which he retired when ill health rendered him unable to attend to it.”

Aaron's widow is listed in the 1887 Kingston, Jamaica, City Directory, as residing in the house at 65 Duke Street according to http://jamaicanfamilysearch.com/Members/kgndir_d.htm
