About Abe Raab
Because of their poor circumstances, Abe's parents Sarah & Moses Raab sent the oldest child, Max, to America at an early age in 1890. Max stayed in New York for a short time, then moved on to the Midwest. He helped to bring over some of his brothers and sisters--Gussie, Abe, Anna, Ethel, Helen and Amelia. Amelia, the youngest, came to America in 1925.
The two brothers, Max and Abe, started a men’s retail clothing business in Cincinnati. They opened branch stores for their brothers-in-law Max Schnall, Louis Reich, Sam Jacobs, Max Roth, and Edward Herman. At one time, there were twenty—five stores in the chain throughout the Midwest. Eventually, the brothers—in-law all operated their stores independently.
