About Abigail Howard

Abigail (Ward) Dimon, m. Moses Dimon; m. 2d, 1685, to Edw. Howard.

Daughter of Andrew and Esther Ward of Fairfield. "Andrew Ward was first known of in Watertown, Mass., where he was made a freeman. Mar. 3, 1634, and on Mar. 3, 1636, he was appointed with Roger Ludlow and six others by the General Court of Mass., to govern the Colony of Connecticut for one year. He was one of the judges of the first legislative body held in Connecticut, at Newtown or Hartford on Apr. 26, 1636.

"About 1651 he purchased Simon Hoyt's lot in Fairfield which he sold in 1653, and the same year purchased Thomas Newton's house and lot on Ludlow square. " He was one of the most important and influential men in Fairfield. "He died in 1665, leaving nine children. In his will he left forty pounds to his daughter Abigail at the age of eighteen." " Upon the death of her first husband, Abigail married Edward Howard of Roxbury, Mass., whose wife Mary died in 1643." (Sav. Gen. Diet.)

Was apprenticed to Major Nathan Gold until of age, and thus became one of the family. (Hist. ofF.) Oct. 19, 1658. "The Court hath put John Dimond, with his consent, unto Lieutenant Gold till he is twenty-one years of age, who is faithfully to serve him, and he must have sufficient meat, drink and clothing, and twelve pounds at the end of his term, and he is not to be to his heirs or assigns. "William HiLh, Secrefary." (F. T. Rec.)

He moved to New London, where he settled, and married Rebecca, widow of Thomas Minter, and daughter of James Bemis, of that place. (Sav. Gen. Diet.) Possibly the same person as mentioned in the New England Gen. Reg., vol. 6, as follows : "Jonathan Dimont, 1672, one of the early settlers of Essex and Old Norfolk." Constable of New London in 1679.
