Abner Sharpe

. . research on Abner Sharpe who was Iredell County's first Clerk of Court and this is what I have found. Abner was the son of William and Catherine Reese Sharpe. Abner was born Oct. 1, 1772 and died Nov. 11, 1807. He was married to Mary Lloyd Osborne Aug. 20, 1797. His father William was an attorney and surveyor who is credited with having surveyed and laid out the first streets in Statesville after it was created as the county seat by the N.C. State Legislature in 1789. Iredell forms as a county out of Rowan County in 1788. According to Homer Keever's book, "Iredell-Piedmont County" Abner attended Clio's Nursery of Arts and Sciences located between Snow Creek and the South Yadkin River. It was founded by James Hall in 1774 and lasted until around 1787. Abner probably got the job as Clerk of Court due to his father's prominence and influence and his own education.
