Abner Smith, native of Ireland, migrated from South Carolina ca 1823 to Jasper County, Georgia. He was married twice in South Carolina. All research indicates he was married to Massey or Mercy Morris. She is buried in South Carolina near Charleston. The second wife is unknown but also died in South Carolina. The family history has him born in Ireland but research to this date indicates he was born in South Carolina to John Smith. He moved to Georgia to Coweta County as a result of winning the lottery and getting Land Lot 1,District 7, 202 1/2 acres. He died within two weeks of coming to Coweta and left his two land lots to his sons, John B and Moses M (received Carroll County land lot), a minor. Abner is buried in a private cemetery in Coweta County on the land he received in the lottery. The family has been caring for the cemetery for about 187 years. His grave is unmarked.
