About Abraham Leasure, I

THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION WAS FURNISHED BY PHIL LASHER: Abraham's dates are b. 1695 d. 1785 in Bedford County. Some accounts have him living as late as 1790 but all have him as died in Bedford County. Also most Rev soldiers filed for a pension between 1785 and 1790 but Abraham did not.

The government veterans grave locator lists only two Leasure's in Unity cemetery (both Abraham b. 1713 d. 1803 & brother Georgeb. 1728 d. 1809 attached.) Abraham b. 1713 d. 1803 and his wife Margaret b. 1715 d. 1818 both died and were buried on their farm Westmoreland County, near the present site of the Westmoreland county fair grounds. Their bodies were moved at a later date to the unity cemetery, and buried next to his brother George.

I am still looking for Abrahams records at the national archives and if they are ever found I will let you know where he is buried but we can be sure it is not in Unity cemetery.

ID: I27119 Name: Abraham LEASURE Sex: M Birth: BET 1670 AND 1695 in Near Basel, Switzerland Death: ABT 1785 in Bedford or Upper Dauphin, PA Burial: Unity Cemetery, Latrobe, Westmoreland Co., PA

Note: Abraham came from Novarri, France in 1754. He was a French Huguenot. Abraham was married to Margarette. The original spellig of his name was LeSouer or LeSueur

We can show that all his sons served in the same unit from Upper Dauphin Co., Pa., as did he in the Revolution. All his sons received their Revolutionary War bounty property in Westmoreland County except for Benjamin who became Lasher. The Westmoreland property can be traced to the bounty property given to the vary unit from Upper Dauphin Co., Pa., that they all served in.

Rev. A. Stapleton one of the first pastors in Westmoreland county wrote:

BIOGRAPHY: Rev. A. Stapleton, in his memorial of the Huguenots in America, gives the following concerning the Leasure family: "The Leasure family is both ancient and honorable, and was originally seated in the Province of Navarre, France. At the Revocation a branch of this family was compelled to flee to Switzerland for safety, and from whence came Abraham Leasure, who arrived in America in 1754, and located in upper Dauphin County, Pa., where the family name is still extant. A son of the immigrant located in Westmoreland County, Pa., where his descendants became prominent, notably Gen. Daniel Leasure, a distinguished officer of the Civil War ." (Stewart's History)

There is much confusion and controversy both in regard to the place of Abrahams birth (Ancestry; Neatherlands, others France and findagrave; Switzerland) and, secondly, his father (Ancestry; Abraham, Our Family; Pierre, My Heritage; Jean Francois)
