About Abraham Ouke

ABRAHAM OKIE, son of Abraham Ouke and Antje Blauw was bp in Raritan DC 2 May 1725 (Somerset Quarterly). He died before 25 September 1782. On a marriage bond in the State Library in Trenton, N. J. "Abraham Ouke of New Brunswick, marriner, and Mary Young, spinster, of New Brunswick" were licensed to wed on 12 October 1758. Philip Young of New Brunswick, hatterer, was the cobondsman.

Abraham Okie lived in troubled times and like so many others suffered losses from the Revolution. In 1772 he contributed to the Six Mile Run Neshanic Church Fund. In September 1779 he appears on the list of ratables in Hillsboro Township (N.J. State Library) as a householder with only 1 cow. He does not appear on the 1780 list of ratables and may be presumed to be deceased because on 25 September 1782 "Mary Oukie, widow of Abraham Okie deceased of New Brunswick”, made a claim for property presumed destroyed by the British.
