Biography

Abraham was born about 1708 in Henrico County, Virginia. He is the son of Thomas Womack and Mary Farley. He passed away between 4 August 1803 (Date will written) and 15 January 1804 (date will copied), at the approximate age of 95, in Lincoln County, North Carolina.

Marriages

Abraham married Jane Unknown about 1725 in Virginia . They had children:

  • Abraham Womack, 1726-1800, m Elizabeth Stubblefield 1751 in Virginia
  • Mary Womack, b c 1728-bef 1803, married John Spradling[1]
  • Elizabeth Womack, b c 1733, married Charles Cawthorn in Virginia; born Abt. 1733.

Abraham had a relationship with Ann Blanton during the period about 1742 to about 1750. They had children:

  • Thomas Womack, 1743-1790; married Louvisa Rice
  • Archibald Blanton, 1745

Abraham married Elizabeth Unknown about 1760. They had one known son:

  • Abner Womack, born January 07, 1764 in Prince Edward Co., Virginia; died February 14, 1845 in Butler Co., Kentucky. He married Agnes Nancy Reed September 24, 1787 in Lincoln Co., North Carolina; born Abt. 1773 in Lincoln Co., North Carolina; died 1844 in Butler Co., Kentucky.[2]

Children

Although Abraham had six children by two wives and a mistress, it will be noted that he names only one of his sons, Abner, in his will (see Note following will below). Most of his legitimate children predeceased him (Abraham, possibly Elizabeth, and Mary).

His two illegitimate children, Thomas Womack and Archibald Blanton, would not have been able to inherit and both were possibly dead before the will was written in 1803.

Abraham had very little property to leave his heirs, no land, only his personal and household effects. Some of this, including his family Bible, was left to the children of his son Abner. The remainder was bequeathed to Margrat Hacker [Hager]. She is not a relative, but may have been the person caring for Abraham in his old age. He was nearly 100 years old when he died.

{Reverse side} Abraham Wamock Will

Copy Issued January the 5th 1804

Note: This will was not written personally by Abraham, but apparently dictated to someone else. The writing of the will differs from the writing of Abraham's signature.

The reference to "grandson James Wamock, son of Abraham Wamock" is probably an error due to the dictation. Abraham had no son James, although his brother Abner Womack did. The other bequests are to the children of Abner, so probably the reference should have been "grandson James Wamock, son of Abnor Wamock."
