About Adalhelm of Autun

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adalhelm_of_Autun

Adalhelm of Autun was a Frankish nobleman of the 8th and 9th centuries from the Wilhelmid family, son of Thierry IV and the Carolingian Alda.

He was called as a witness in the charters of the foundation of the abbey of Gellone by his brother William, 15 December 804. Two other brothers signed these charters: Theodoen and a Thierry who is not mentioned in any charters.

That is the only ascertainable information about Adalhelm himself. On the basis of onomastics, two children have been assigned to him:

Waldrada, wife of Adrian, Count of Orléans, count palatine of the Agilolfing family, brother of Hildegard, wife of Charlemagne. Bernard, count of Poitiers in 815 and in 825.

[1]

In the second half of the 8th century, Adalelm was mentioned as Count d'Autun; His successor was possibly Theodoric I (a character different from the Theodoric cited as the Count of Autun in 742 and 750). If that were the case, the first Adalelm would be Theodoric's son, and Theodoric I's father would be the father of a second Adalelm. This is mentioned as a testimony to the letter of foundation of the abbey of Gelona made by his brother, Guillem I of Toulouse , on December 15, 804. Two other brothers also sign as testimonies: Theodoen d'Autun and Teodoric. This Theodoric would be Theodoric II and it is possible that Theodoric and Theodoen were the same person. [2]

On the basis of the nomadic two children are attributed to him:

Waldrada wife of Adrià de Orleans, palatine count of the family of Agilolfings , brother of Hildegarda de Vintzgau , wife of Charlemagne . This hypothesis has been issued by Maurice Chaume from the study of the family of Güerau d'Aurillac, related to Hilduí de Saint-Denis, abbot of Saint-Denis, who was the brother of a Güerau and a Bernard; the name Güerau should be assimilated to Gerold, led by the father and brother of Hildegarda. Chronologically, Hilduí de Saint-Denis could be nephew of Hildegarda. Among the nephews of this are Eudes or Odó, Count of Orleans, and his brother Guillem, count of Blois, son of Adrià and Waldrada. But these names of Bernard and Guillem show a kinship with the cribs,Vita Hludowici Imperator points out that Heribert (son of Guillem de Gelona) was blinded in 830 and then exiled with his cousin Eudes d'Orléans. [3] Chronologically Waldrada could be the granddaughter of Guillem, because his name does not appear in any list of his children. [4] But Armand de Fluvià thinks he could be the daughter of Guillem and Adrià's wife at first wedding and Robert III of Wormsgau in second (alternatively, she would be a daughter of Adria and Waldrada, also named Waldrada, I would have married Robert). Bernard or Bernat , Earl of Poitou in 815 and 825, predecessor of Emenó de Poitou , brother of Bernat II of Poitou and father among others of Adalelm de Troyes, count of Troyes. The marquisate of Gothic or Septimania was taken by Guillem de Gelona (Guillem de Tolosa) and several relatives of Alalelm had the county of Autun, which was later given to Bernat de Gòtia, the son of Bernat de Poitou. [5]Against this hypothesis is the fact that, as Michel Dillange says, the name Bernard or Bernat was already running to the frank aristocracy and at least as far as that name, it is not possible to resort to the onomastics to establish parentheses, and says that Bernat II, Emenó and Turpió de Angulema would be the children of Adalelm. In a part of his work, Louis Riché is the ancestor of a family that had the Angouleme and Périgueux counties at the end of the 9th century: [6] Emenó de Poitou and Turpió de Angulema would be Bernat's sons although Riché placed to Emenon in the offspring of a brother of Adalelm.
