Adam Duncan-Haldane, 2nd Earl of Camperdown of Lundie was born on 25 March 1812 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.

He married Juliana Cavendish Philips, daughter of Sir George Richard Philips, 2nd Bt. and Hon. Sarah Georgiana Cavendish, on 23 March 1839 at St. George's Church, St. George Street, Hanover Square, London, England.

He died on 30 January 1867 at age 54 at Weston House, Warwickshire, England.

He was the son of Robert Dundas Duncan-Haldane, 1st Earl of Camperdown of Lundie and Janet Hamilton-Dalrymple.

He was educated between 1824 and 1828 at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.

He was styled as Viscount Duncan between 1831 and 1859.

He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1834 with a Master of Arts (M.A.).

He was Member of Parliament (M.P.) Southampton , Bath 1841–52 and Forfarshire 1854–59 in 1837.

He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) for Southampton between 1837 and 1841.

He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) for Bath between 1841 and 1852.

He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) for Forfarshire between 1854 and 1859.

He held the office of Lord of the Treasury between 1855 and 1858.

He succeeded to the title of 3rd Viscount Duncan of Camperdown [G.B., 1797] on 22 December 1859.
