About Adam Owen Fuchs

Condensed from pg 11, Adam Owen Fuchs and his Descendants by Joyce Wolfgram (1984):

Adam and Elizabeth Thorner married in Bayern / Baiern Germany and resided there during the early years of their marriage. Their first three children were born there. They sailed from the Port of Havre on the northern shore of France and arrived in the United States in March of 1854. They settled in Ash Twp, Monroe Co, MI. Adam received his naturalization papers and became a citizen on October 15, 1860. Elizabeth did not receive citizenship as it was not "necessary" for a woman to be a citizen in those days. Adam and Elizabeth resided in Ash Twp. the rest of their life.

A Little about Bavaria, Germany from Adam Owen Fuchs and his Descendants by Joyce Wolfgram (1984):

Bayern/Baiern, Germany or what we, in America, call Bavaria is the largest of all current German states, roughly the size of South Carolina. It is also amoun the oldest. It is bordered by Austria on the south, Baden Wurttemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate on the west, Hesse and Thuringia on the north and Czechoslovakia on the east. The boundaries of Bavaria, however, are not the same today as they were when Adam and Elizabeth Fuchs lived there.

Adam and Elizabeth resided in the small town of Wachenhiem in the destrict of Rhenish Palatinate in the sate of Bavaria in WEst Germany. However, after World War II, Rhenish Palatinate formed part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, which borders Bavaria to the west. If we were to visit Wachenheim today, Adam and Elizabeth's home town, we wold locate it in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, not Bavaria.

The land is hilly averaging about 1600 feet in elevation. It is a cold country. The average temperature of the year is about 47 degrees. Average tempeature for winter is 30 degrees; for spring, 47 degrees; for summer, 63 degreess and for fall, 47 degrees.

As far as religion, Bavaria has been traditionally Roman Catholic. However, as it acquired territory to the north and west, protestantism began to lay a much bigger part in its culture.
