- 1799 - 4 July 1799. Gleanings From Randolph County Criminal Actions: Capias against Jacob Staley (Adam's father) to make bond for keeping the peace with his wife Eve Staley, she making oath before Daniel Dawson that she is afraid he will beat, wound, maim or kill her. Jacob posted bond 6 july 1799, with Conrod Staley and Shubal York, securities.
- 1807 - Eve Porter (Adam's mother) petitioned for divorce but was denied by the NC legislature.
- 1808 - Married Margaret Cargile in Wilkes county, NC.
- 1824 - 26 Jan 1824. Purchased 63 acres on Wolf River in Overton Co., TN from William Chilton.
- 1828-1828. Moved to Clinton County, KY.
- 1838 - 8 July 1838. Purchased 100 acres on Wolf River bounded by the KY/TN state line and properties of William Wood and the widow Cargile from John Chilton.
- 1840 - 23 June 1840. Purchased 70 acres on the KY/TN state line in District 12 of Overton Co., TN from George Gordon.
- 1842 - 23 July. From the will of William Cargile, Wilkes, NC. "A yellow boy named EDMUND "which I give and bequeath to my worthy friend, Adam Staley, till the said EDMUND is 21 years old and go his security for his good behavior--he is 12 years old...." EDMUND was born ca 1830. Interestingly, Adam and Peggy Cargile Staley had a son named Edmund Staley born in 1834 in Clinton Co., KY. Adam Stailey is named executor along with brother in law William Wood.
- 1842 - 23 July. From the will of William Cargile, Wilkes, NC. A negro girl, MARY, bequeathed to his daughter Polly and her children. Mary "Polly" Cargile, the sister of Adam's wife Margaret "Peggy" Cargile, married William Wood in 1826. At some point they moved to Clinton Co., KY.

My 2nd greatgrandfather Isaac Baker Thrasher married Mary Ann (1811-1889) the daughter of Adam Stailey -Margaret Cargile (1709) and they married November 7, 1808.
Mary Ann is listed along with 10 brothers and sisters in the book by Jack Ferguson "Early Times in Clinton County"
