Adeline Madelyn Aamot

Adeline (Aamot) Strand, of Windom and formerly of Milan, died Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at the Windom Area Hospital at the age fo 89. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Kviteseid Lutheran Church. Rev. Tom Opoien will officiate and interment will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo with the family present from 5-7:00 PM and a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Adeline Madelyn (Olson) Strand was born September 10, 1919 on a farm outside of Milan, MN the daughter of Alvin and Mable (Lia) Olson. She was baptized and confirmed at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan. Adeline attended Milan school and graduated from high school in 1937. She was united in marriage with Verdie Aamot October 23, 1938 and they made their home on the Aamot farm outside of Watson. In 1948, they purchased the Watson Oil Company and moved to Watson. Adeline was involved with many community projects in Watson and very active at Zion Lutheran Church. She and Verdie especially enjoyed the Saturday night steak fries with friends at the Wayside Park outside of Watson. They lived there until 1964 when they purchased the Johnson Motel in Windom. After retiring in 1974, they returned to Milan. Verdie died December 24, 1984. They had been married for forty-six years. Adeline married Ray Strand January 24, 1987. They moved to Apple Ridge in 2002 and later to the Appleton Nursing Home. Ray died February 11, 2005. Adeline moved to the Good Samaritan Home in Windom in 2007. She is survived by seven children: Jean (Jack) Bettger of Montevideo, MN, Carolyn Walton of New London, MN, John (Anita) Aamot of Sun City, AZ, Susan (Ken) Kammen of Willmar, MN, Bruce (Lori) Aamot of St. James, MN, Robert (Dawn) Aamot of Windom, MN, and Rebecca (Terry) Culhane of Burnsville, MN; five step-children: Susan Strand, Nancy Strand, Roger Strand, Ozzie Strand, and Margaret (Clayton) Sodetani; thirteen grandchildren: Krista Bettger (Lon) O'Donnell, Larry (Natalie) Walton, Theresa Walton (Paul) Patock, Tom (Mary) Aamot, Tim (Anna) Aamot, Tirza Aamot (Todd) Benham, Todd Aamot, John (Kim) Jurgens, Julie Jurgens (Jim) Shimek, Rachel Aamot, Shea Aamot, Jeff Culhane, and Kelly Culhane; thirteen step-grandchildren: Bergen, Anne, and Ben Standahl, Corey (Stephanie), Taylor, Tyler, and Siri Strand, Meagan (Mike) Steele, Katey (Nate) Gray, Nadia (Brad) Rezac, and Rocky and BJ Sodetoni; numerous great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Olive Dalen of Milan, MN and Ruth Stimson of St. Louis Park, MN. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husbands, Verdie Aamot and Ray Strand; son-in-law, Michael Jurgens; and brothers-in-law: Fred Stimson and Leland Dalen.
