About Adolf Kaufmann, Rabbi
Adolf Kaufman, was the last rabbi in Beltinci. Beltinci (now part of Slovenia) - Belatinc, Hungary-. is a settlement and a municipality in in the region of Prekmurje region. The Jewish community of Beltinci boasted an important number of intellectuals and physicians. On 26 April 1944 the Jews of Beltinci and its surroundings were gathered at the old elementary school where they were kept until the next day when they were transported to Auschwitz wherefrom no one returned. The family was very orthodox. The rabbi was known as a very intelligent and spirited townsman. Her son Henrik Kaufmann, was a merchant in groceries, textile, leather and rubber. His shop was plundered in 1918 and the family moved to Papa in Hungary. He was married to Izabela Rotter and they had three children: Arpad, Ella in Aranka. The entire family was killed in Auschwitz. Her son Ignac Kaufmann, (the second son of the rabbi Kaufmann) was a merchant in groceries and assorted goods. His shop was pillaged after the First World War. Ignac Kaufmann was married to Helena Rotter and they had eight children: Hugo, Jenö, Elizabeta, Olga, Laszlo, Irma, Margita and Arturj. Ignac and Helena were killed in Auschwitz. Some children escaped death, but not all. Some descendants of the Kaufmann family live in Hungary, but the majority emigrated to the US.
