He was probably born in Gelderland, was an early settler in New Amsterdam. His wife Wyntje Elberts probably came from Nieuwkerken in Zeeland with her brother Elbert Elberts. Aert and his wife were recorded members of the Dutch church when the first roll was made in 1649. He was a burgomaster of the city, died before 1662 when his widow married Cornelis Aertszen.
