Daniel, was the immigrant who founded our branch of the Currie family in Ontario, Canada. He came to Ontario, to Lanark, in 1821, with his son John from a first marriage, his wife having died in childbirth, his second wife Jane, his new in-laws and new brother-in-law. Jane had their first child, Agnes, as they were walking from Brockville to Lanark.' They waited a whole day so she could recover before they resumed their walk. Daniel Currie and Jane Stewart emigrated in 1821 from Greenock, Scotland, to Quebec City, then by steamboat to Montreal, then by barge to Brockville, then walked to their lot. Agnes was born in a barn or shanty as they traveled.
