About Agnes Tyrwhitt, Baroness Borough of Gainsborough

Agnes, daughter of Sir William Tyrwhitt and Anne Constable, married Thomas Burroughs (later 3rd Baron Burroughs of Gainsborough) in 1496. Of ther numerous children, daughters Dorothy and Elizabeth became nuns.

From 1510, when he was declared a lunatic, Agnes had to deal with an insane father-in-law who lived until 1528. She may have benn at Court with her husband when Anne Boleyn was Queen, as he was Queen Anne's Chamberlain.

 

Her husband caused a domestic uproar in 1537 when he accused his daughter-in-law (wife of son Thomas) of adultery.

 



Burgh married three times; firstly in 1496, Agnes Tyrwhitt, a daughter of Sir William Tyrwhitt, with whom he had at least twelve children. He married secondly Alice London, and lastly Margaret de Ros, but had no further issue by either.
