Albert Gritz Dies at Independence
Independence, Wis. (Special to The Republican-Herald ) — Funeral services for Albert Grltz, resident of Independence since 1910, who died at his home here Wednesday at 3:30 p. m., after an illness of more than two years which kept him constantly confined to the house, were conducted today.
Mr. Gritz was born in Poppelau, Germany, October 28, 1859 and at the age of 21 came to the United States and settled on a farm in Wickham Valley, six miles west of this village, where he lived until 1910, when he retired from farming and with his wife moved to town.
He married Julia Marsolek, February 11, 1885, who survives him. Six children were born, three sons and three daughters. Two sons are living, Frank of Virginia , Minn., and Thomas of Claremont, Minn. Mary died at the age of two, Elizabeth at 17 and Albert and Anna when infants. Six grandsons also survive.
They are the two sons of Frank and the four sons of Thomas. One half brother, Joseph Kabus, of Wickham Valley, also survives.
Funeral services were conducted at 9 a.m. today at the Ss. Peter and Paul's Catholic church, the Rev. L. J. Kufel and the Rev. Francis Pretarski of Independence and the Rev. Joseph Andrzejewskt of Arcadia, officiating.
Pallbearers were members of the Ss. Peter and Paul's society of which Mr. Grltz was a member.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
